WRITERS JUNGLE RETREAT COSTA RICA
Making spring rolls with Colorado poet laureate Kerrie Joy
Writing in the Jungle is a writer's retreat on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Whether you're a novice with a story to tell or an established author working on your latest literary project, Writing in the Jungle offers an opportunity to work on your goal and participate in writing workshops within a tropical jungle setting with all the wonderful expected natural sights and sounds you can already imagine! This natural writing lab is designed for short and long term works for writers and poets preferring a private, isolated experience while working on their craft. Fifteen minutes from the busy tourist beach strip, the goal here is to be totally authentic with your aloneness in order to achieve quality work, while having access to all that is offered here in the Puerto Viejo experience. As you take your daily morning walks on the beach, you will notice our famous black sand. It is rich in minerals, great for the skin. A gift from the volcano. Just one of the many wonders here! Individual and group workshops are available for those experiencing literary blocks, fear of writing or need assistance with self-publishing. Lodging is available onsite.
This retreat also serves as an online base for under-represented writers throughout the globe who seek a platform for their writing intentions. Our visiting writers include Mamadou Ouattara on his experience as a young migrant fleeing his country of Ivory Coast as a result of the 2021 political crisis and his trek through Europe, South America and on to Costa Rica after surviving the Darien Gap. And upcoming author Walter Wilmore is working on his own memoir using the jungle landscape as his literary canvas.
And rising new author Cornelius Henry returns with a new project based on his time living in the little beach town and about a young boy's fascination with bugs and bees that talk back to him, and a family secret hidden in the greens.
